3M Welding (www.3m.com) introduced an auto-darkening filter that the company says is medium-priced. The Speedglas 92002D has a "low" or normal sensitivity setting that can be used with most types of welding, and a "high" position that provides arc detection for most TIG processes at amperages down to approximately 20 amps. The filter has dual shade selection (10-11) with light-state shade 3. The company recommends its 9002V and 9002X filters when using even lower amperages or inverter TIG equipment. Separately, 3M added a new particle filter service life indicator to its Adflo respiratory protection system. The company says it has not made other changes to the system. The new indicator only applies to the particle filter. If the user misses a filter change, the Adflo turbo unit has a safety alarm that warns the user when airflow is insufficient. If the user continues working, the unit shuts down automatically as an extra safety measure.
