Monitor laser welding

Miyachi Unitek Corp. (www.miyachiunitek.com) has introduced a process monitor that is designed to monitor pulsed Nd:YAG laser welding. The MML-100A Nd:YAG Laser Weld Process Monitor records time and magnitude data on actual incident and reflected infrared energy for every pulse in real time. The company says the material threshold (the point at which the infrared absorption coefficient abruptly increases) is clearly evident, and can also be correlated to weld penetration and other weld quality characteristics for many materials and weld geometries.
