The courses were developed and produced by the Hobart Institute, and include demonstrations and exercises on multi-pass fillet welds and groove welds in all positions with gas-shielded and self-shielded electrodes on 0.25-inch, 0.375-inch and 0.75-inch mild steel.
There are two topics on metalcored wire in the flat position that are designed to give students a basic exposure to metal-cored electrodes and their operating characteristics compared to gas-shielded and selfshielded FCAW wires. There are also two topics on 6-inch schedule 80 pipe in the 2G and 5G positions that serve as an introduction to pipe welding with the flux-cored arc welding process.
In a news release, the institute said the courses also include essential theory, such as: an introduction to the FCAW process that covers the major differences between FCAW and GMAW; equipment set up, adjustment and maintenance; safety; and electrode classification and selection.
The institute said the courseware meets or exceeds the American Welding Society SENSE standards.
