Structural Welding Code
The D1 Structural Welding Committee released AWS D1.1/D1.1M:2004, Structural Welding Code - Steel, the first new revision of this code since 2002. Welding and engineering personnel must stay updated on revisions to AWS D1.1/D1.1M to ensure the construction of fabricated-metal structures. The 2004 edition includes: clarification when an engineer's approval is needed; modification of allowable stress range formulas; revised tolerances for prequalified PJP and CJP groove welds; additions and deletions to prequalified base metal list; a new guide for specification writers; and new restriction on prequalification of flux-cored arc-welding and gas-metal-arc-welding power sources. The new code provides commentary that guides application of the code, especially for detailed sections, as well as sample welding forms and a list of reference documents. Terms and definitions extracted from AWS A3.0:2001, Standard Welding Terms and Definitions, are also included. The code is approved by the ANSI. The code is 540 pages with 66 tables, 133 figures, and 27 mandatory and non-mandatory annexes, a commentary and an index. The price is $258 for AWS members and $344 for non-members.
