Horizontal carousels offer green benefits
Remstar International Inc. (www.remstar.com), provider of automated storage and retrieval systems for manufacturing, distribution and warehousing applications, has introduced a new line of horizontal carousels and vertical storage and retrieval systems that are designed to help welding supply companies build or redesign sustainable green facilities to meet LEED sustainable standards.

The company said its systems help organizations to quickly and easily meet and exceed the LEED “triple bottom line” objectives.
Remstar said its storage and retrieval systems meet the three cornerstones of sustainable design: Environmental stewardship, economic prosperity and social responsibility.
The company said its horizontal and vertical carousels and its Vertical Lift Modules can reduce the carbon footprint of welding supply organizations. Companies can construct smaller, more energy efficient buildings, reducing new construction by up to 15 percent in some cases, conserving natural resources and reducing maintenance costs.
In existing buildings, overhead floor-to-truss space optimization can reclaim up to 85 percent of the space used by drawers and shelving and rack stewardship while saving building maintenance and energy costs, claimed the company.
Remstar horizontal carousel systems deliver stored items at an ergonomically optimized height to eliminate bending, stretching and reaching. This design not only improves productivity, but also reduces employee stress and injury for improved quality of work life, helping organizations meet social responsibility.
Stored items are delivered automatically to the operator, eliminating walk and search time to improve productivity by up to 66 percent. More efficient operation reduces energy consumption to help reduce an organization's overall carbon footprint. Often used in an integrated workstation, the systems allow operators to pick from one active unit while the others are pre-positioning to be picked the moment the operator is ready, dramatically increasing throughput up to 500 percent. Return on investment for many installations is often under 18 months, said Remstar.
