Miller Electric Mfg. Co. is introducing a new MIG welding system that integrates weld-monitoring software with the power supply. The Axcess® E with Insight™ package has the Insight weld process management system embedded into the Axcess® E multi-MIG welding platform, which according to Miller improves productivity and quality by providing useful information to operators, supervisors, welding engineers, production managers, quality managers, maintenance professionals and manufacturing managers.
The basis of the new system is Miller’s Axcess industrial multi-MIG power source platform. It’s an inverter-based system with a series of advanced functions, including the Accu-Pulse™ welding process, Auto-Line™, Fan-On-Demand™, Wind Tunnel™ design, and Sure Start™, among others.
The Axcess E with Insight uses Miller’s Part Tracking™ feature to monitor the fabrication of each part, weld-by-weld. The supplier says this provides more value than any other data monitoring system, promising fewer process mistakes because the new system monitors each weld according to preset parameter limits. It thereby will detect missed welds, “under-welding,” and “over-welding,” among other basic mistakes.
Also, the Axcess E with Insight package will identify potential defects because the software can be configured to alert the operator or manager if a weld has not met the expectations for current, voltage, wire feed speed, gas flow or duration.
In addition, the new MIG system provides data on cost, productivity and quality via Miller’s Insight Reporter™, so managers have the critical information needed to inform decisions that will drive continuous improvement in the process.
Axcess E with Insight is an Ethernet-based package so it links to a factory network system as well as each welding system, so critical data can be delivered to the people who can use it most effectively. The interface is a web-based application that can be accessed via any compliant browser, so any machine in the organization can be accessed from virtually anywhere, and critical machine functions and settings can be monitored and adjusted by any manager with local or remote access to the factory network. The welders can monitor pre-set values and welding results, as well as perform diagnostic functions, and make any necessary changes to the system set-up.
