Hypertherm’s Powermax65° and Powermax85° systems now are offered with more torch options as well as a more rugged torch design for greater durability in harsh cutting environments. Both of the cutting systems have been improved with a series of technological innovations, according to Hypermax, which designs and manufactures handheld and mechanized plasma metal cutting systems for industrial use, including shipbuilding, automotive repair, and other manufacturing applications.
In addition to cutting systems Hypertherm supplies plasma and laser consumables, CNC motion and height controls, and cutting software.
The new Powermax65 and Powermax85 torch options include an ergonomic 75-degree hand torch; a 15-degree hand torch for gouging and cutting in tight locations; a 15-inch full-length machine torch; and a 6-inch short barreled machine torch for robotic and pipe-cutting applications. With the greater versatility that these options offer. operators can cut metal that may have been hard to access in the past. Also, Hypermax reports the torches are up to five times more rugged and durable than the earlier versions.
Several technological advances will improve cutting performance, reliability, and ease of use, according to the developer. Smart Sense™ technology boosts efficiency by automatically adjusting gas pressure to the cutting mode and torch length, while Spring Start™ technology in the electrode increases reliability by eliminating moving parts in the torch body.
Even with these new features, the new systems are 33 percent smaller and up to 20 percent lighter than the systems they replace in the Powermax lineup.
The Powermax65 is supplied with a recommended 0.75 in. (19 mm) cut capacity and 1.25 in. (32 mm) severance rating; the Powermax85 is provided with a recommended 1 inch (25 mm) cut capacity with a 1.5 inch (38 mm) severance rating.
