Orbital weld heads automate alignment, clamping

Apparent Technologies (www.apparenttech.com) has unveiled its R50 and R100 Orbital Weld Heads, which the company says automates alignment and clamping processes. The orbital weld heads feature automated electrode centering, automated hands-free clamping with alignment sensing/verification, and quick-change collets, combining for a highly accurate and efficient welding process.

The weld heads have an alignment pin that pops up and aligns the joints with the electrode center, which can significantly cut down the number of missed seams. Automated clamping provides users with more speed and flexibility. The company estimates that welders will be able to double their work as a result of the automated process.

An alignment verification system ensures proper alignment, while requiring no tools. Compared to visually aligning, the weld heads take the guesswork out of the process and simplify access welding.

Ranging from 1/8 in. up to 1 in., the R50 and R100 offer highly compact weld heads and extremely tight weld configurations. Stainless and ceramic construction and auto-cooling provide for a high duty cycle. Snap-in collets and a quick-disconnect weld cable allow for quick configuration changes.

The weld heads are designed for high-purity piping in markets such as semi-conductor, pharmaceutical, and solar energy.
