Small, powerful plasma cutter

Miller Electric Manufacturing Co. (www.millerwelds.com) reports its new Spectrum 875 plasma cutter is the smallest, most powerful 60-amp plasma cutter. At 52 lb, the unit is the size of a lunch box, 13.75 in. × 8.5 in. × 18 in., yet offers a cut rating of 0.875 in. on mild steel at 10 in. per minute. On thinner materials, the unit's travel speed is even greater. For example, on 0.5-in. mild steel, travel speed increases to 27 ipm.

The unit's Ultra-Quick Connect torch and work cable provide quick connection and removal, while its cable management straps simplify storage and transport. Its portability and cutting capacity are well suited for construction, maintenance repair operations and fabrication applications.

The cutter's electronically controlled air system eliminates the need for the operator to adjust air pressure and automatically compensates for input air variations, providing optimum cutting and gouging performance. Line voltage compensation provides a steady cutting arc even when input power varies by ±10 percent. The cutter runs off 208/230v single-phase power and operates at full output when powered on a 12,000 watt generator.

The Spectrum 875 features Auto-Refire technology that eliminates the need to retrigger the torch when cutting expanded metal, such as grates or fences. The unit also features Auto-Post Flow that automatically calculates the amount of postflow time needed to optimize consumable cooling.

Also new from Miller Electric Mfg. Co. is the Millermatic 212 Auto-Set, all-in-one MIG welder that combines the performance of the Millermatic 212 with the Auto-Set feature that automatically sets the optimal parameters on metal thickness and wire diameter.

By integrating the Auto-Set feature into the all-in-one MIG welder, the company said the new welder simplifies weld set up by automatically selecting wire feed speed and voltage after the operator inputs the wire diameter and material thickness. The Millermatic 212 Auto-Set is also equipped with infinite voltage control for better manual fine-tuning of weld parameters for all materials.

This new welder also features Miller's Line Voltage Compensation (LVC) to keep output constant even if input voltage varies by ±10 percent. It can weld up to 0.375-in. mild steel in a single pass and is compatible with the Spoolmatic 15A/30A spool guns for aluminum welding. The Millermatic 212 features wirefeed speed control on the gun, saving time for the operator by eliminating the need to go back to the machine to change spool gun wirefeed speed. Additionally, the unit has the Fan-On-Demand cooling system that operates only when needed, reducing the amount of dust and dirt drawn into the machine and power consumption, Miller said.

The Millermatic 212 Auto-Set is compatible with Bobcat generators. Optional features include an elevated gun and cable rack and the Dual EZ-Change low cylinder rack with elevated gun and cable rack.
