The new Millhog Dictator 10 clamping welding end prep tool from Esco Tool (www.escotool.com) is designed for beveling heavy-wall steam or process pipes where the weld is critical because of the high temperatures and pressures.

The tool delivers 4,000 lb-ft of torque, and is designed for use on heavy-wall pipes to 20-in. diameters that are made of stainless steel, super duplex and other hard-to-machine alloys.

With a template that allows bevel angle transitions for compound bevels, the tool also has a cross-feed mechanism that guides a single-point cutting bit around the pipe to create precise bevels. It is equipped with a standard pneumatic motor and is also available with a hydraulic motor. The tool has dual-opposed tapered roller bearings for optimum rigidity, and its cutting bits are made from titanium nitride (TiN)-coated high-speed tool steel. No cutting fluids are required.
