Electrodes for flat or horizontal welding
A new generation of E-7024 stick electrode from Hobart Brothers (www.hobartbrothers.com) — the Rocket 7024 — is designed to improve weldability and productivity on flat and horizontal welding applications. The electrodes are well-suited for general plate, tank, and construction equipment fabrication, and for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) applications requiring high deposition rates and high travel speeds.

The electrodes feature a self-removing slag system that completely releases slag, and improves productivity by minimizing timely post-weld activities such as chipping or grinding. Rocket 7024 stick electrodes also produce lower spatter levels than competitive 7024 electrodes and welded through moderate amounts of dirt and rust while still achieving a consistently smooth, flat weld bead profile, said the company.
Designed for DCEN, AC or DCEP welding, Rocket 7024 electrodes are available in 0.125-, 0.1562-, 0.1875-, 0.2187-, and 0.250-in. diameters. These electrodes provide high deposition rates for fast travel speeds and high productivity, while a smooth, quiet arc adds to operator appeal and ease-of-use, according to Hobart Brothers.
Also new from Hobart Brothers its Hobart Fabshield X80 self-shielded flux-cored welding wire that ensure consistent chemical and mechanical properties when welding on critical X80 pipeline applications. The welding wire creates welds with high tensile strength and excellent Charpy V-notch (CVN) impact toughness that remain ductile at low temperature.
Classified under the American Welding Standard (AWS) A5.29, class E81T8-Ni2 J, the Fabshield X80 wire provides a typical tensile strength of 94,000 psi and a yield strength of 84,000 psi. The wire's ‘J’ designation guarantees that the welding wire meets the strict requirements for low-temperature CVN impact toughness as determined by AWS, and ensures more exacting properties than competitive E81T8 wires classified to only ‘G’ designations. Specifically, Fabshield X80 welding wire provides CVN impact values from 107 ft/lb at -20 F (-29 C) to 96 ft/lb At -40 F (-40 C). The wire is available in 0.0781-inch diameter in a variety of packages and weights.
Fabshield X80 welding wire features a fast-freezing slag that is nearly self-peeling, making it good for welding in all positions and helping to reduce post-weld cleaning time. It can also be used for either single- or multi-pass welding on fillet, lap or deep groove butt welds, especially those exposed to low temperatures.
