High-performance and pipeline wire

New L-59 MIG wire from Lincoln Electric (www.lincolnelectric.com), a new addition to the company's SuperArc high-performance consumables line, is designed to deliver the best results for automated welding applications. As with all wires in the SuperArc product line, L-59 delivers optimal arc performance, feedability, consistency and extended contact tip life. This consumable's features make it effective for automated welding solutions, single and multiple-pass welds, and for use in the automotive, structural, pipeline and offshore industries, as well as general and heavy fabrication applications.

The wire is a copper-coated, mild steel consumable that provides a stable arc, as well as consistent feedability due to Lincoln Electric's MicroGuard Ultra surface-coating technology. The deoxidizing arc tolerates high amounts of surface contaminants, significantly reducing pre-weld surface prep time. Its engineered chemical composition enhances silicon island management with minimal amounts of spatter for reduced post-weld clean-up. Improved arc wetting action decreases weld time with high travel speeds and deposition efficiencies.

The SuperArc L-59 wire delivers optimal performance with Lincoln Electric's GMAW Rapid Arc and Tandem MIG, which is available through Waveform Control Technology and also available in the Power Wave equipment line.

The wire works with 100 percent CO2, 75 to 80 percent Argon balance CO2, or 95 to 98 percent Argon balance CO2 shielding gases. It can accommodate a 30- to 50-cfh flow rate. The L-59 wire conforms to AWS A5.18, ASME SFA-5.18 and CWB CSA W48 requirements.

Also, Lincoln Electric has extended its line of Pipeliner consumables with the new Pipeliner NR-208P, self-shielded and flux-cored wire (FCAW-S.) Designed for the rigorous demands of pipe-welding operations wordwide, the wire provides superior performance with high deposition rates, allowing it to carry and deposit weld metal with ease even for vertical down pipe and out-of-position welding applications.

The Pipeliner NR-208P provides the portability of stick electrode and the productivity of a wire, ideal for overcoming the typical challenges of pipeline welding, such as remote locations and extreme weather conditions. These consumables can handle up to X80 grade pipe and are recommended for hot, fill, and cap-pass welding procedures.

The new wire is capable of handling the low-temperature, impact-toughness requirements of cross-country pipe welding applications. Each lot of Pipeliner NR-208P consumables are tested to exceed -20°C (-20°F). In addition, for ensured performance, reliability and consistent results, all Pipeliner NR-208P wires are hermetically sealed with Lincoln Electric's Pro-Tech packaging systems in airtight containers.

All Pipeliner NR-208P consumables are manufactured and certified according to lot-control standards, per AWS A5.29 Class T1 Schedule I. Actual certificates of tests for each lot are available online at www.lincolnelectric.com.
