Tempil, an Illinois Tool Works Company has introduced an infrared gun for non-contact measurement of welding preheat temperatures. Tempil said its Tempil-IRT-16 infrared thermometer measures temperature with a high degree of accuracy through reflected heat emissions. Welders can hold the gun, press the trigger and aim the gun at the target metal to get a temperature reading. The temperature is shown in degrees Celsius (C) or Fahrenheit (F) on the backlit LCD.

The Tempil infrared thermometer is available from the company’s distribution network. The thermometer has a holster that is provided at no additional charge. NIST certification is also available for the instrument.
