Ultra Machine and Fabrication specializes in precision armor plate.

Ultra Machine and Fabrication (umf1.com) is on the move with the addition of a new 122,500 sq. ft. headquarters located in Shelby, N.C. The new campus is situated on 110 acres with room for growth, and it has increased its Shelby campus with an additional 101,000 sq. ft. bringing its total square footage to 223,500.

Building on its core business, as a supplier of precision sheet metal fabrication, specializing in armor plate, Ultra has added several new high tech machines to its manufacturing capabilities at its facilities in Shelby and at its existing 70,000 sq. ft. facilities in Kings Mountain, N.C.

The machines include lasers, press brakes, robotic welding and plasma cutting machines. Ultra understands welding, and has more than 125 certified welders and six robotic welders. Its five plasma machines, supplied by MG Systems & Welding Inc. (www.mg-systemswelding.com), are equipped with nine HPR260 Hy-Performance Plasma cutting torches from Hypertherm Inc. (www.hypertherm.com) and one bevel torch. The consumables were supplied by American Torch Tip (www.americantorchtip.com), and ensure the precision Ultra requires for its products.

Ultra is using the American Torch Tip Quick Change system on several of its torches to cut mild steel to 1 in. thicknesses, and has found the system creates less down time because the nozzle and electrode design provide faster changeovers to ensure continued and consistent cutting. This has been one of the contributing factors that helped the company to maintain its record of on time deliveries.

With American Torch Tip products, Ultra found it could consolidate its collection of plasma and MIG welding consumables, which are supplied by Gamco Services.
